A female accused with harassing Kate McCann apparently deposited her a phone message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has persistently claimed she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard communication data and information retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported investigations and remains unsolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

Another recorded message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Suppose there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Is that not significant for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I possess a life here in Poland, I only wish to discover," the recording stated.

The jury was informed that by means of emails, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a bid to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a early life with the McCanns.

The investigator, an investigator with the police force who gathered the information, informed the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also contacted family friends of the McCanns, based on the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my point."

The court learned the co-defendant struck up a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in the county in December 2024.

Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted using messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the months leading up to the trip to Rothley, that area, in last December.

The court was told communications between the two accused, in that autumn, discussing trying to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from cutlery at a eating establishment.

"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the visit to their home, Mrs Spragg dispatched a message which said: "We are sat near the McCanns' house with our headlights off resembling private investigators. I desired to do this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be doing that with the McCanns."

The trial ongoing.
